Town Hall 16 Offensive Overview

Town Hall 16 introduces intense defensive power with the Merged Defenses (Ricochet Cannons and Multi-Archer Towers) and the nature-themed defensive Giga Inferno. Breaking through these bases requires deliberate troop pathing, disciplined spell investment, and maximum synergy with your Hero Equipment.

Key Focus: Defensive fire density at TH16 is higher than ever. Armies that maintain tanking throughout the core while protecting support damage dealers yield the highest 3-star conversion rates.

1. Root Rider Smash (The 3-Star Standard)

Root Riders continue to define the Town Hall 16 meta due to their unique ability to shatter walls as they move. When paired with Valkyries or Bowlers and supported by the Grand Warden's Healing Tome, this composition bulldozes compact and compartmentalized base layouts.

Army Composition:

6x Root Riders
8x Valkyries
3x Headhunters
4x Super Wall Breakers / Cleaners
3x Rage Spells, 2x Freeze Spells, 2x Overgrowth / Skeleton Spells
Siege Machine: Siege Barracks or Log Launcher

Execution Steps:

  1. Funneling: Deploy the Barbarian King with Giant Gauntlet on one flank and the Siege Barracks with the P.E.K.K.A on the opposing flank to narrow the main entry corridor.
  2. Main Drive: Deploy all Root Riders followed closely by the Valkyries and Grand Warden straight down the middle.
  3. Spell Timing: Cast an Overgrowth Spell on high-DPS backline compartments (e.g., Eagle Artillery / Monolith) so your main pack deals with the immediate Town Hall core first.
  4. Grand Warden Ability: Pop the Eternal Tome + Healing Tome right as the squad enters the core and triggers the Town Hall poison explosion.

2. Queen Charge Hybrid / Lalo

For skilled attackers who prefer pinpoint surgical control, Queen Charge into LavaLoon (Lalo) remains unstoppable against open anti-3 star bases with exposed Town Halls or off-center Monoliths.

Key Objectives for the Queen Charge:

  • Take down the enemy Clan Castle troops and Queen using Poison & Rage.
  • Eliminate at least 1-2 Scattershots or the Monolith before starting the secondary phase.
  • Keep at least 1 Freeze and Invisibility Spell ready for unexpected single-target Infernos.

3. Super Archer Blimp + Hydra (Dragon/Dragon Rider)

A high-reward strategy that aims to delete 30% to 50% of the key base core before the main army is even deployed.

  • Setup: Send a Battle Blimp packed with Super Archers behind a Lava Hound directly towards the Town Hall and core key defenses.
  • Drop Zone: Clone + Invisibility + Rage inside the center to obliterate the Town Hall, Monolith, and Clan Castle.
  • Cleanup Phase: Sweep remaining edges with Dragons, Dragon Riders, and the Royal Champion.

Optimal Hero Equipment for TH16 Attacks

Barbarian King

Giant Gauntlet + Rage Vial or Spiky Ball + Giant Gauntlet

Archer Queen

Frozen Arrow + Invisibility Vial or Healer Puppet + Giant Arrow

Grand Warden

Eternal Tome + Healing Tome (Smash) or Fireball + Rage Gem (Air)

Royal Champion

Rocket Spear + Seeking Shield or Hog Rider Puppet + Haste Vial

Pro War Attacking Principles

  • Always plan Clan Castle pull: High level Poison + Headhunters are mandatory to neutralize Super Minions or Ice Golems.
  • Identify the Monolith location: Never send high-HP heroes like the King directly into an unshielded Monolith without Freeze or distraction skeletons.
  • Save 2-3 cleanup archers: Time fails are the #1 cause of 99% 2-star attacks on oversized TH16 maps.
